Abstract

Not Available Vulnerability and survivability assessments require a ray-tracing tool capable of analyzing geometry created using Pro-Engineer. ThermoAnalytics proposes to extend their recently developed ray-tracer to meet this need. This modular ray-tracing tool currently calculates thermal view factors for infrared and thermal signature assessment. It incorporates the latest ray-tracing techniques including spatial subdivision. ThermoAnalytics proposes to extend this existing ray-tracer to: 1. Ray-trace Pro-E surface and solid entities, 2. Report the identity of components along the shotline, the incident angles at each intersection of the shotline with a surface, and the distance traveled, 3. Be easily integrated into vulnerability codes such as MUVES, 4. Interrogate Pro-E files to report the material properties of intersected components. This tool will eliminate the difficult translation of target geometry between commercial CAD systems and BRLCAD. This translation is presently required because the current MUVES ray-tracer functions only with BRLCAD geometry. The proposed standalone program will be capable of ray-tracing surface and solid geometry from a variety of commercial CAD systems. ThermoAnalytics will optimize it for ray-tracing files produced by Pro-E. The program will run on multiple platforms (UNIX and Windows systems). The proposed work capitalizes on the synergism between vulnerability and IR/thermal analyses codes.
