Abstract

AquaClear's review of key market indicators for aquacultural products demonstrates that rapidly growing demand for tilapia--a premium food fish--will present significant opportunities for economic growth to U.S. aquacultural firms through the fiscal year 2025. Demand for this product will continue to outstrip supply, and far exceed lagging U.S. production. Foreign imports currently supply 60% of U.S. consumption; 1994 imports from Latin America are estimated at 100,000 lbs per week.

Tilapia is ideally suited to intensive, closed system aquaculture, as perfected by AquaClear Environmental Research Group, whose patented water filtration technology is both cost-effective and environmentally benign.

Development of strategic marketing information, research data and market planning, is needed to allow U.S. aquaculture and AquaClear ERG to exploit the growing gap between seafood supplies and international consumer demand.
