Abstract

Modern warfare is intensely information centric with vast amounts of information transmitted around the battlespace. Within this environment, it is critical to provide predictive and timely intelligence in planning and execution of operations. A tool is necessary to provide direction of ISR in the tasks of collection, exploitation, analysis, and dissemination. The tool resulting from this research will support operational commanders by providing information to support aerospace operations in dynamic environments. The Aptima and Wright State team will develop Intelligent Icons for Meta-information Adaptive Presentation (I2MAP). for qualifying information or meta-information according to recency, uncertainty, and pedigree. Specifically, the I2MAP team will answer the challenge of how best to visualize information to improve its discriminability, visibility, salience, and conspicuity. During the I2MAP development process we will determine how specific display features may be tied to specific needs in the work domain and how these techniques may interact. Through experimentation the I2MAP team will determine the effects of directing attention to particular visual features for understanding and processing information in the Dynamic Targeting Cell (DTC) of the Air and Space Operations Center.
