Abstract

The original intent of this SBIR was to design combined shock and vibration isolation mounts for shipboard equipment. Recently, the need to develop such a combined mount(s) for the DDG 1000 Electronic Module Enclosure (EME) has manifested itself. The primary objective now, then, is to develop and qualify combined shock and vibration isolation mounts specifically to support these EMEs. The development of the vibration isolation mount element of the combined mounts will include analyses and testing of the internal resilient elements of the isolation portion of the mounts. Analyses will also be performed to insure that the combined mounts will not compromise the shock performance. Final prototypes of the isolation mount will then be built. Full scale drop testing and vibration testing of the prototype combined mount will be conducted. PMS 500 is planning to issue tasking to Raytheon to assist in accomplishing that work in conjunction with this Phase II SBIR effort. The primary benefit of these combined mounts, while being specific to the DDG 1000 EMEs in this proposal, is that both surface ship shock and vibration isolation requirements could be met with a relatively low cost, single family of mounts.
