Abstract

NON-TECHNICAL SUMMARY: Due to its high cost, popularity and demand, Atlantic blue crab meat is susceptible to substitution using less valuable, imported crab species. There are no diagnostic tests available to distinguish pasteurized crab meat samples. The purpose of this project is to develop, validate, standardize, and commercialize a discriminating PCR-based diagnostic to identify crab meat species at the DNA level.
