Abstract

Amer Ind, Inc. proposes to fulfill the requirements of DARPA SB962-058, Synchronous Collaboration Glueware, Tools, and Metrics, with a comprehensive approach that focuses on the implementation of synchronous editing of documents with embedded objects, including multimedia objects by: transparently integrating a file format converter with a server-based document repository; using one of those formats as a common language; and integrating a source control system with the repository to avoid collisions between concurrent edits. Our approach includes an experimental design to study the impact of our solution. Participants in the test access a prototype system and begin synchronous collaboration while AmerInd researchers focus on test measurement and analysis. Techniques will include: observation of the patterns of use that develop via unobstrusive measures (computer usage logs), classic survey research, and intensive interviewing. At the end of the session, AmerInd researchers measure the cultural impact, productivity changes, and computer resource consumption.
