Abstract

Phase II designs, develops, and delivers Intelligent Collision Detection and Warning System to the U.S. Air Force. The proposed Phase II project is an extension of the Phase I project ¿¿Low Cost Autonomous GPS Based Collision Avoidance System¿¿, and acontinuation of AGNC's efforts in the development of advanced avionics systems and technologies for military and commercial applications. Each aircraft¿_s position information is shared with other aircraft over an RF data link. An intelligent displayshows the relative positions of the aircraft in the immediate vicinity of the host aircraft and issues voice and flashing warnings if a collision hazard exists. This system provides situational awareness to the pilot and enhances the safety of flight. The system is capable of exchanging data with up to 40 aircraft at up to a 40 mile range. The Phase II effort will dramatically enhance the air traffic management capability in the commercial aviation industry. The successful Phase I research anddevelopment efforts and the potential market suggest a strong Phase II opportunity.
