Aerophysics, together with subcontractor Raytheon Missile Systems, proposes to develop a Local Space Imaging System (LSIS) based on the proven AIM-9X Sidewinder missile gimbaled seeker. The LSIS will combine an AIM-9X-derived imager with an autonomous attitude determination system to provide pointing/tracking/imaging capability independent of host vehicle orientation and without interface with the host vehicle attitude control system. The LSIS instrument will employ a low-power, compact star tracker, sun sensor, and three-axis magnetometer to measure the instrument’s inertial attitude. An on-board command and data handling subsystem will coordinate imager pointing and host vehicle data interface. The proposed development effort integrates proven technology in a low-mass, low-power, bolt-on sensor for defensive space situational awareness.
