Abstract

Advanced Scientific Concepts Inc. has developed a compact, 3D flash LADAR (3DFL) video camera. It is not a scanning LIDAR, but instead takes a 128x128 pixel image with a single flash of laser light and can acquire 30 frames per second. 3D images are obtained at over a kilometer with a very compact, ASC-designed, 15 millijoule eye-safe laser. Both the 3DFL video camera and the laser, with innovative modifications, can be compressed to fit within the serpentine robot performance and size envelope using a unique, modular sensor-design approach. The modular approach supports many potential CONOPS. This Phase II proposal provides a detailed plan to fabricate a prototype, serpentine-robot 3DFL camera. Motivation and background are also provided which illustrate the practicality of the sensor solution as well as the expertise and fabrication experience of the ASC team.
