Abstract

A self-pumping water heater is proposed wherein a small portion of the water to be pumped is evaporated in a boiler and used to pressurize and heat the main stream of water. Unlike early slow direct-acting steam pumps, the proposed approach operates at moderate frequencies and is extremely compact. In Phase I, an analytical model describing the dynamics of the process would be formulated, and a proof-of-principle self-pumping water heater would be fabricated and tested.
