Abstract

Intelligent Automation, Inc. (IAI) proposes the design of a miniature IFF Transponder capable of receiving the interrogations as required (Mode 1, 2, 3/A, C, S, 4, 5) providing the related replies, and managing the ADS-B In (ADS-B, TIS-B and FIS-B messages) and ADS-B Out messages complying with the RTCA DO-160B and DOD AIMS 03-1000B standards, within a 3.5 cubic inches of volume. The main challenge of the Phase-I effort will be to prove the feasibility of designing a miniaturized crypto module that would fit with the target SWaP requirements. In order to meet these stringent requirements, IAI proposes to use the latest generation of System-on-Chip (SoC) approaches to implement single-chip crypto system architecture. Highly integrated transceiver circuits, pulse-biased amplification schemes and SoC based power management will reduce not only IFF Transponder form-factor, but also provide improved efficiency and greatly reduced quiescent device heat dissipation. This makes our solution ideal for battery powered UAV applications.
