Abstract:
At the start of one new weapon development program, the projected cost of integration was more than the weapon development program itself. It resulted in killing the program. It's better now, thanks to the development and widespread use of a standard interconnection system. MIL-STD-1760 capable aircraft have ameliorated the situation but have not attained the "plug-and-play" capability for weapons like that of today's PC components. There has been, and remains today, little commonality, intercommunication, and interoperability with air vehicle stores management systems. That is to say, one does not port code for a weapon type from one aircraft system to another. In response to the challenge of SBIR AF04-163, 21st Century Systems, Inc. is pleased to propose researching and developing a universal plug and play system concept of a network of intelligent agents (software) for the system segments of interoperable aircraft and stores. Our system concept is entitled "ArmaNet." We propose a system approach to enable universal plug and play of weapons. This project will culminate in a state-of-the-art distributive process for employment of new stores resulting in safe, universal use while reducing weapon integration costs through standardization efforts of the US Government and industry.
