Development of Advanced Compact Energy Recovery Pumping System for Shipboard Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination
An energy recovery reverse osmosis pump (RO) capable of delivering 16,000 gallons per day is proposed. The final product after the Phase II option will be a titanium pump to reduce the weight and enhance the corrosion resistance. The new RO pump will provide potable water using the most efficient system available with lighter materials and an optimized design for manufacturability and service. The enhanced features will be more cost effective to operate, install and service. The potential of this is for shipboard which will support a large ship and large crew. In addition, it is sometimes necessary to use a ships RO system in a devastated region due to weather or even war. These regions can exhaust a ships supplies and the new system will allow more capabilities to support those efforts.
