Abstract

Agiltron, in partnership with the University of CaliforniaSan Diego (UCSD), will develop the Silicon Nanowire Phototransistor (SNAP) Imager, a silicon-based imager with unprecedented capability for low light level imaging. The unique nanoscale architecture of the fully CMOS-compatible silicon nanowire phototransistor creates colossal internal gain at biases on the order of one volt, a level of performance that is unprecedented in a solid state imager. When monolithically integrated with CMOS readout integrated circuitry (ROIC) at the pixel level, a highly compact, solid state, low light level imager with uncooled operation and performance equivalent to a Gen-3 image intensifier tube will be realized, making it ideally suited for helmet- or eyeglass-mounted operation.
