Abstract

We propose to investigate the application of our proprietary and proven technique of writing holes in fused silica to the manufacture of diesel fuel injector nozzles. Specifically, this unique process should permit the creation of complex hollowed shapes in transparent fused silica injector nozzles. These shapes may have undercuts, Y-branching, internal baffles, guides, and other complex features that cannot be attained by the current techniques used to produce holes in fuel injector nozzles. These hollowed shapes cannot even be obtained using the latest ultrafast laser ablation technology when using non-transparent materials.
