Abstract

TIAX LLC proposes to develop a multi-layered kinetic energy and thermal shielding system to protect ordnance in the munitions rack of combat vehicles. The proposed program builds on Phase I results by extending the search for the most effective, state of the art materials for ballistic protection. Ballistic performance testing with MILP46593A fsp's will be carried out to validate expected ballistic performance. A detailed assessment of munitions protection applications requirements will be carried out. The best, validated ballistic protection materials, plus the thermally insulating materials identified in Phase I will be used as a basis for the design, fabrication, and testing of protection systems for individual munitions and for munition racks.
