Abstract

The objective of the proposed project is to design, develop, and construct equipment to centrifugally filter highly corrosive process solutions using a novel technology. Central to this new technology is a replaceable, reusable, inert polymer drum which is periodically removed as it fills with unwanted waste matter. The drums are constructed to dramatically improve separation by increasing the active surface area of the centrifugal processes, thereby allowing slower rotation speeds and reduced power train requirements. The Phase I project will demonstrate the successful treatment of high-temperature corrosive solutions generated by aircraft maintenance facilities. TRA will identify and evaluate all process solutions identified by the sponsor with regard to taxicity and cost of disposal according to applicable state and federal regulations. The anticipated results of the Phase II program will be a product prototype of a centrifugal filter delivered to the government for test and evaluation.
