Abstract

In order to become HLA compliant, a Simulation Object Model (SOM) and interface code must be developed for every legacy model that needs to interoperate with other models in a federation. Lessons learned from the protofederation experiments proved that this is a very difficult task that can take up to three person years of effort. At this point in the HLA development, no tool set to conduct this analysis and generate a SOM and interface code for legacy models has been developed. Spectra Research, Inc. (S*R) proposes to develop the HLA Federation InterConnect (FedConnect) Tool Set to automate much of this process. FedConnect will provide tools so a software engineer and domain expert team can conduct automated and interactive analysis of the legacy code, map elements of the code to a FOM and automate generation of much of the RTI interface code. FedConnect will be developed by extending a Model input/output (I/O) Reengineering environment provides the capability to automatically analyze the source code and group model I/O data into abstract object-oriented classes. consequently, development of the FedConnect tool set is an ideal application for this SBIR funded technology.
