Abstract

This proposal addresses the need for a low cost QRC combat identification system. S*R proposes to breadboard and demonstrate such a system. This system utilizes a passive, cooperative, multi-spectral tag which operates in conjunction with existing airborne (or ground based) sensors. S*R calls this passive, non-radiating system COOP-ID (Cooperative Identification). While intended primarily for air-to-air or air-to-ground, the S*R design is also compatible with the individual soldier combat equipment for ground-to-ground operations. The S*R COOP-ID designs are immune to counterfeiting by using GPS data and/or ID encryption codes. This effort will synthesize the most cost effective configuration(s) needed to meet COOP-ID requirements for close Air Support and Special Operations Forces (SOF). Phase I research will demonstrate key elements of an inexpensive RF/IR/Laser Multispectral COOP-ID design.
