Abstract

Solid State Scientific Corporation is pleased to propose a study that investigates optical flow algorithms for background and clutter suppression in advanced missile threat warning systems. The algorithms are designed to take advantage of new array based MTW sensors that utilize spectral information for target detection and elimination of false alarms. The algorithms proposed capitalize on the differences between optical flow for clutter backgrounds and the velocity of missile targets. The key feature of the algorithms is that they implement optical flow techniques on spectral data to reduce false alarms using target and background phenomenology. This approach is computationally less expensive than conventional optical flow and leverages the spectral image information available to the sensor. The algorithms will be tested against live asset data.
