Abstract

The team of Soar Technology, Inc. and NewVectors, LLC seek to help US forces understand and antici-pate the activities within faction networks that lead to IED blasts by developing the Detecting Enemy Forces United to Strike with IEDs (DEFUSE) system. DEFUSE will enable analysts to integrate models and data about factions, IED processes, and blast activities to forecast IED activities including bomb-making, targeting, deployment, and the blast. These capabilities will aid the analyst by provid-ing computational modeling of a wide range of faction structures and IED processes much more rapidly than is possible for a human alone. After analysis, DEFUSE forecasts will provide a useful tool to com-municate threats and provide targets for intelligence and offensive operations to operational staff.
