Abstract

In this SBIR Phase I effort, Structured Materials Industries, Inc., www.structuredmaterials.com (SMI), in collaboration with a primary radar system supplier, will develop a broad based research and development plan, for thin film microwave filter technology, applicable to X-band active electronically steered antenna (AESA) array radar systems. The plan will incorporate advanced thin film materials such as piezoelectrics, HTS superconductors and ferroelectric materials. The use of thin film technology will result in higher efficiency, lower cost and reduced size, for the microwave filters and the resulting radar systems. In Phase I, we will establish a prioritized list of thin film filter technologies, to be developed throughout this SBIR program. We will fabricate and demonstrate key components of the highest priority technologies in Phase I. In Phase II, we will build prototype microwave filters based on our advanced thin film technology. In Phase III, we will commercialize the results of this SBIR funded program.
