Abstract

SimQuest proposes to use existing data from civilian and military sources to populate an existing software tool to produce a predictor of probability and severity of injury and death during military vehicle crashes and explosive events. A key feature will be the ability to update the data to keep current and to add additional modules for different types of injury scenarios such as aircraft ejection. During Phase I, we propose to identify the variables for the analysis and the scores that would represent the output/results of the analysis, and to determine how the existing software tool would need to be modified to meet project goals. SimQuest proposes to use subject-matter experts from each of the services and the Special Operations community with expertise in military operations, military medicine, vehicle crash biomechanics, and blast to ensure relevancy and applicability at each step of the process. The expertise of the principals and use of existing tools wherever possible will greatly expedite the development process, to the point that we expect to be able to provide a Web-based prototype in Phase I instead of Phase II.
