Abstract

RESEARCH IS PROPOSED TO INVESTIGATE THE FEASIBILITY OF COMPUTERIZED INDUSTRIAL TOMOGRAPHY FOR NONDESTRUCTIVE INSPECTION OF BRIDGE SUSPENSION CABLES AND ASSOCIATED FITTING STRUCTURES. TOMOGRAPHIC EXAMINATION WILL BE CONDUCTED OF SEVERAL SAMPLES OF ACTUAL CABLES AND FITTINGS, WITH RELEVANT REAL AND SIMULATED FLAWS. THE CAPABILITY OF THE TECHNIQUE FOR DETECTING CORROSION AND FATIGUE CRACKS IN THE COMPONENTS WILL BE EVALUATED. BASED ON THE RESULTS OBTAINED WITH THE EXISTING LABORATORY SCANNER, A PRELIMINARY OPTIMUM DESIGN FOR THE APPLICATION WILL BE DETERMINED.
