Abstract

In Phase I of this SBIR project the proposed commuter railcar loading concept was developed in detail and its operation was simulated in order to demonstrate feasibility and to quantify the reduction in station dwell time compared to other railcar loading operations. Feasibility was demonstrated. The boarding system will enable the loading of all passengers, regardless of mobility, from a wide range platform configurations. In Phase II of this SBIR program, Safe proposes to continue the detailed design effort and to build and test a prototype of the design to demonstrate the performance characteristics of the device. The design when completed is anticipated to be ADA-compliant.
