Abstract

THE GOAL OF THIS RESEARCH EFFORT IS TO BUILD AND DEMONSTRATE A FUNCTIONING MULTIAPERTURE OPTICAL (MAO) SYSTEM OPERATING IN THE IR AND MEASURE THE MINIMUM REQUIRED SNR FOR DETECTION OF AN UNRESOLVED POINT TARGET. ALSO A MATHEMATICAL MODEL WILL BE DEVELOPED TO SIMULATE THE PERFORMANCE OF A MAO SYSTEM BASED ON REALISTIC DETECTOR DATA FOR VARIOUS GEOMETRICAL DESIGNS OF THE MAO SYSTEM (PHASE I). INNOVATIVE CONCEPTS FOR IR PHOTOMULTIPLICATION AND ACTIVE MODE (LIDAR) OPERATIONS WILL BE INTEGRATED INTO INEXPENSIVE AND VERSATILE MAO SYSTEMS WITH A WIDE VARIETY OF APPLICATIONS AND FLEXIBILITY (PHASE II).
