Abstract

THE AIM OF THIS RESEARCH IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DECODER WHICH MITIGATES THE EFFECTS OF BOTH INTERSYMBOL INTERFERENCEAND NOISE. IN PARTICULAR, THE RESEARCHERS CONSIDER A PARTICULAR RATE 1/2, 64 STATE, CONVOLUTIONAL ENCODER, A DECODER, AND A CLASS IV PARTIAL RESPONSE CHANNEL WITH ADDITIVE NOISE. THEY SHOW THAT THE DECODER MATCHED BOTH TO THE CODE AND TO THE CHANNEL ALSO HAS 64 STATES. IN PHASE I OF THIS RESEARCH ANSWERS TO SOME FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS DECODER ARE SOUGHT PHASE II WILL BE CONCERNED WITH ITS ACTUAL IMPLEMENTATION IN VLSI.
