Abstract

THIS PROPOSAL SEEKS TO DEVELOP AN AUTOMATED CELLULAR ELEC- TRODE SYSTEM FOR VARIOUS SCREENING AND MONITORING PURPOSES. MICHIGAN RESEARCH CORPORATION IS INTERESTED IN INVESTIGATINGTHE USE OF IMMOBILIZED CELLULAR AND ENZYME DISKS MAGNETICAL-LY COUPLED TO AN ELECTROCHEMICAL SENSOR SUCH AS AN OXYGEN ELECTRODE FOR SCREENING AND ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING. THE IMMOBILIZED DISKS CAN BE COUPLED AND DECOUPLED BASED ON AN INDUCIBLE MAGNETIC FIELD GENERATED INSIDE THE ELECTRODE. THIS AUTOMATED SCREENING SYSTEM CAN ALSO BE USED TO DETECT AND QUANTIFY MINUTE QUANTITIES OF TOXIC CHEMICALS IN THE EN-VIRONMENT. MICHIGAN RESEARCH CORPORATION PHASE I RESEARCH WILL BE FOCUSED ON DEVELOPING THE IMMOBILIZED CELLULAR D DISKS AND THE INDUCIBLE MAGNETIC TRANSDUCER IF INITIAL FEASIBILITY STUDIES LOOK ENCOURAGING, FURTHER RE-SEARCH IN ENGINEERING DESIGN AND SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SCREENING SYSTEM WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN PHASE II.
