Abstract

Precision Combustion, Inc. (PCI) proposes to develop a breakthrough Microlith short-contact-time catalytic steam reformer (CSR) system for reforming logistics fuels to hydrogen for a 50 kWe fuel cell. This technology offers to achieve high efficiency in steam reforming in a system that is remarkably smaller and more lightweight than current steam reformers. In addition water requirement should be reduced and heat transfer improved. In Phase I, the concept was developed and evaluated, including experimental testing, accomplishing all Phase I objectives and supporting the benefits envisioned from a developed system. A broad set of advantages were identified compared to current steam reformers. In Phase II we will develop, model, and build a full scale system for delivery to the Navy. We will test it to assess and demonstrate the system’s capability, and work with the Navy to develop next steps.
