Abstract

Metallized high ohms per square polypropylene is promising for meeting Army capacitor requirements, but the current state of knowledge and fabricating procedures provide inadequate specifications and results in a large variability in performance. This project is to conduct research and development to increase the understanding of the use of high ohms per square polypropylene and implement fabrication procedures that lead to the delivery to the Army of capacitors that meet Army needs. Phase II will includes research to improve performance and develop more precise capacitor specifications. In addition, new diagnostics will be implemented to qualify materials and windings. Capacitors will be delivered to the Army in Phase II that meet specific application requirements. The development team includes researchers, film vendors, metallized film fabricators and commercial capacitor manufacturers.
