Abstract

Physical Sciences Inc. proposes to develop a higher performing solid propellant fuel by enhancing the stability of Aluminum Hydride (AlH3) by developing a novel coating around the energetic ingredient. Careful selection of the coating ingredient around the AlH3 will allow for revolutionary advances in a stable insensitive higher performing solid propellant fuel for use on space access launch vehicles, strategic tactical and missile defense systems. The proposed investigation will focus upon a group of pre-selected coating materials and synthesis methods that can increase the thermal stability and potentially reduce the sensitivity of AlH3 particle. The study will also involve characterizing the coating around the AlH3, thermal stability surveillance, sensitivity characterization, thermal-chemical analysis, and chemical compatibility.
