Abstract

The team of Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) and Ohio State University (OSU) proposes to develop and demonstrate a novel electrically generated singlet oxygen to atomic iodine laser. In Phase I we developed and demonstrated a novel discharge method for production of singlet molecular oxygen and completed a design for a supersonic transfer laser. In Phase II we propose to extend this work to develop a high efficiency singlet oxygen generator. We will develop and apply novel and sensitive diagnostics to quantitatively characterize the OSU flow system. These diagnostics will include both absolute chemiluminescence photometry and ultra sensitive diode laser absorption measurements. The Phase II goal is to demonstrate positive small signal gain and laser oscillation on the iodine laser line at 1315 nm.
