Abstract

A FABRICATION METHOD IS PROPOSED FOR DEPOSITION OF WIDE AREA, HOMOGENOUS THIN FILMS OF HIGH TC OXIDE SUPERCONDUCTOR USING A DOUBLE PULSE LASER DRIVEN DETONATION WAVE THRUSTER AS THE DEPOSITION SOURCE. THE DEVICE WILL USE LASER ABLATION OF BULK SUPERCONDUCTORS, FOLLOWED BY DETONATION WAVE PROCESSING AND HYPERSONIC NOZZLE EXPANSION OF RESULTINGGASES TO GENERATE A HOMOGENOUS ATOM BEAM. FILMS WILL BE DEPOSITED ON SUBSTRATES OF SAPPHIRE, YTTRIUM STABILIZED ZIRCONIA, AND MAGNESIUM OXIDE. SAMPLES WILL BE CHARACTERIZED BY STRUCTURAL AND CHEMICAL ANALYSIS, DC RESISTANCE AND MAGNETORESISTANCE VERSUS TEMPERATURE, AND AC MAGNETIC SUSCEPTIBILITY, USING STANDARD TECHNIQUES.
