Abstract

The Phase I effort focused on the design and testing of the combined shock and vibration isolation mounts incorporating novel shock dissipation mechanisms. Phase II will yield convincing evidence that these mounts can provide important benefits tocritical ship systems. Phase II efforts will also show a clear path to the commercial viability of shock and vibration mounts that are based on the innovation of this project. As an optional task, Phase II will involve Sea Trials. Once installed, testing shall include assessments for equipment shock isolation performance, including control techniques to access shock mitigation, vibration levels, acquisition and lifecycle costs. Finally, a determination of the scalability of the shock mount forlarger shipboard equipment will be made. The technology developed and proven during Phase II will provide an alternative shock mount system that will benefit shock sensitive shipboard equipment as well as equipment supporting damage countermeasures systemsonboard naval vessels. Primary benefits include combined shock and vibration isolation, simplified installation, low or no maintenance, and broad scalability to handle small instruments to heavy machinery with a small family of mounts.
