Abstract

DIRECT CONTACT CONDENSATION OF VAPOR ON LIQUID IS A COMPACT AND POWERFUL MEANS TO TRANSFER ENERGY. THE PROPOSED RESEARCH WILL DEVELOP UNIFYING CONCEPTS AND GENERAL METHODS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF DIRECT CONTACT CONDENSATION AND RELATED TWO-PHASE FLOWS AND PROCESSES. DURING PHASE I, CREARE WILL DESCRIBE A GENERAL PREDICTIVE METHODOLOGY CENTERED ON FLOW REGIME ANALYSIS, CONDUCT A SCALING ANALYSIS, ASSESS UNIFYING CONCEPTS AGAINST EXISTING EXPERIMENTAL DATA, AND IDENTIFY AND DEFINE CRITICAL EXPERIMENTS TO BE CONDUCTED IN PHASE II.
