Abstract

THEORETICAL STUDY OF UV LIDAR INDUCED FLUORESCENCE OF DILUTED MIXTURES OF UNKNOWN EMITTERS, THE OBJECTIVE BEING TO DESCRIBE THE CONDITIONS FOR WHICH IT IS POSSIBLE TO DETECT AND/OR QUANTITATIVELY DETERMINE THE IDENTITY OF FLUORESCENCE COMPONENTS. TECHNIQUES APPLIED TO THIS PROBLEM INCLUDE EIGENANALYSIS, FOURIER TRANSFORMATIONS, AND PATTERN RECOGNITION THEORY. EMPHASIS ON SELECTING OPTIMAL FEATURES FROM SPECTRAL AND TIME DECAY DATA TO OBTAIN CLASSIFICATION RULES FOR SPECIES IDENTIFICATION.
