Abstract

The primary goal of this program is to develop intelligent software mechnaisms which enhance information discovery using a high capacity, scalable, optoelectronic information architecture. By exploiting a high performance optoelectronic computing (HPOC) module platform as a data "processing engine", innovative software mechanisms will be investigated which can manipulate data/knowledge base processing paradigms. Intelligent techniques will be developed to integrate several different types of raw data from numerous sources. Innovative methods will also be developed to use intelligent software objects for information discovery. A primary program objective will be to investigate how efficiently text search and relational primitives can be implemented on the HPOC module architecrture. In addition, multidimensional algorithms will be evaluated to determine how efficiently the architecture can manipulate multimedia data for subsequent transmisssion and reproduction. During Phase II, selected knowledge/base algorithms will be implemented and evaluated on the HPOC module data processor. A suite of software agenmts will also be impleted for future database manipulation and processing. The technology transfer in Phase III will be focused toward developing an optoelectronic platform which can effiociently conduct text searches and can process relational and multimedia data for dual-use applications.
