Abstract

MetroLaser proposes to develop a holographic diagnostic instrument and associatedimage processing software for quantitative analysis of the response of windows toshock wave loading. The system will be useful in monitoring the window glass fromthe time the shock wave strikes until the resulting fragment field has propagatedseveral feet into the test chamber. Holography will be used to record all of therequired data. The proposed holocamera system will provide three-dimensional, time-dependent optical measurements of the fragment positions and the target surfacedeformation. Algorithms for reducing the optical measurements to quantitativefragment data will be performed through the development of advanced image processingalgorithms.
