Abstract

This Phase I SBIR DARPA Program proposes the development of advanced nano-composite thermal barrier coating (NCTBC) with the enhancement of corrosion resistance from the molten CMAS (Calcium Magnesium Aluminum Silicate) and extension of TBC life at high operating temperature for turbine components. The coating is applied by MOCVD. MER Corporation proposes the use of an advanced nano-composite thermal barrier coatings (NCTBC) system that reduces thermal conductivity by 50% by the enhanced phonon scattering at boundaries of the nano-size grains and has several advantages.
