Abstract

The Virtual Engineering firm is a reality, with a team of scientists and engineers scattered at home sites working together to solve tough engineering problems. This SBIR will perform research and development to provide collaborative system engineering tools for network engineering projects. We will explore new directions for collaborative systems engineering (SE) that enable distributed requirements capture and architecture development. The project will focus on SE tools that enable asynchronous activity by team members together with all hands team sessions in a distributed network. The innovations to facilitate asynchronous activity will interface with commercial- off-the-shelf SE tools and design tools into a distributed toolset that is accessed as needed. Several candidate architectures will be tested on the STARS collaborative engineering network for aircraft structural design.
