Abstract

The proposed Phase II program is the continuation of an extremely successful Phase I contract, during which all of the objectives where achieved. In Phase I, Mainstream verified feasibility, size, low-noise operation, and operational cost savings of the proposed Self Sufficient Tent System. Mainstream demonstrated all of the critical components, including an environmental control unit (ECU), an integrated power generator and controller, and a water purifier. Improvements in diesel engine efficiency and utilization of renewable energy resulted in reduced fuel consumption and economic savings that are sufficient to pay for the entire system with a payback period of less than 1 year. In Phase II, Mainstream will integrate the multi-fuel high-efficiency low-noise generator, the 5-ton ECU, the Reverse-Osmosis Water Purification system (desalinator), a user interface, a power conditioning system, and a soft-walled shelter (tent) within a single-trailer-mounted Self Sufficient Tent system. The system will be available for production assembly and sale at the conclusion of the Phase II contract. The Phase II effort includes a complete system demonstration and life testing.
