Abstract

With the ever increasing importance of reducing the environmental impact of CO2 and nitrogen oxide (NOx) producing vehicles and aircraft, designers of vehicle propulsion systems are facing greater and greater challenges. In addition to reducing emissions in these systems, any modifications to existing systems must adhere to strict safety, performance, and cost requirements. Electric vehicle propulsion and power systems promise to eliminate these harmful emissions from heavy duty vehicles, while simultaneously doubling fuel efficiency. In recent years, considerable progress has been made in the development of electrical power systems. However, the implementation of environmentally harmonious vehicles requires significant advances in efficiency, power density, and specific power. Lynntech's patented all-metal bipolar proton exchange membrane hydrogen/air fuel cell technology, together with Lynntech Plasmatron JP8 reformer, is ideally suited for safe, low-cost, high efficiency power generation for environmentally harmonious heavy duty vehicles. Lynntech's fuel cells have been recognized by NASA and the aerospace industry for their high power density and specific power. The goal of this project is the design, fabrication, integration, testing, and delivery of one PEM fuel cell power system, operating on plasma reformed JP8, for use as the primary power source in an all electric 25K loader.
