Abstract

We propose to design, build, and deploy an On Demand Depot Shop Simulation System (ODSS). The proposed approach uses a combination of data mining and knowledge discovery methods to automatically reconfigure and optimize systems simulation models. Becauseit operates through the shop portal, the ODSS solution will be platform independent and enable collaborative depot shop systems modeling and analysis over geographically dispersed locations. The technical viability of the approach was established in PhaseI by designing and prototyping an adaptive simulation tool that was used to facilitate the planning and scheduling of facility resources within the paint and strip facility. The Phase II effort will implement the ODSS technologies on an actual OC-ALCdepot process and rapidly commercialize the research results. Key innovations include (i) hybrid approach that combines multiple knowledge discovery methods for self adaptive simulation, (ii) model-based approach that maximizes re-use of domain knowledgefor rapid simulation model development, and (iii) Portal-compliant, distributed, plug and play software architecture that allows for mass customization of ODSS tools in multiple application situations.
