Development of Filtered Rayleigh Scattering Velocimetry for Wind Tunnel Applications
Phone: (937) 255-8704
The proposed SBIR research targets the development of a Filtered-Rayleigh Scattering (FRS) velocimetry systrm for the study of unsteady aerodynamics. During Phase I a two-component FRS velocimetry system will be contructed. Enhaqncements will be made to the 1) hardware: improved iodine filter, frequency-stabilized laser, scientific-grade high-resolution cameras, packaged receiving optics, 2) software: data evaluation during acquisition, automated image alignment and intensity calibration, in situ filter absorption-profile calibration, online error evaluation, and 3) verification using PIV in a simple axisymmetric jet. Strengths and weaknesses of the prototype system will be assessed. If development efforts are skuccessful, and time permits, the system will be incorporated into the Subsonic Aerodynamic Research Tunnel at Wright Laboratory.
