Abstract

a The overall goal of this project is to develop a Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS) based on ultra-high performance digital-to-analog converter (DAC) technology capable of directly generating wideband signals at RF with large signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)and spur-free dynamic range (SFDR). In Phase II project, we plan to implement a DDS circuit based on the novel architecture combining superconductive DAC digital circuits and semiconductor amplifiers and high-temperature superconductor filters. This DDSwill be capable of generating RF waveforms directly up to 2 GHz. The DDS will synthesize a sine wave signal with a center frequency anywhere between 1 and 2 GHz and (phase or frequency) modulate that signal at frequencies up to 400 MHz.b This project willlead to the development of ultra-high performance direct digital synthesizers enabling Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) communication, advanced radar systems, any communication systems for Homeland Security as well as commercial wireless communicationsystems.
