Abstract

The Navy is currently pursuing the development of high temperature superconducting components such as transformers and inductors to reduce the size and weight of these components onboard ships. Coated YBCO superconductor tape is a strong candidate to enable these applications. These components for the Navy can operate up to several hundred hertz. This SBIR Phase I investigates the AC loss for these types of components in coil form with both standard and patterned YBCO coated conductor. The determination of these AC losses in coil form will enable us to develop models to predict the AC losses for larger component demonstrations.
