Abstract

This Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I project aims to develop a lightweight, quiet oxygen generator for use by patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The oxygen generator, based on the use of electrochemical concentrator, would replace cylinders, liquid oxygen or pressure-swing adsorption units currently used for in-house therapy. This project addresses a large market opportunity that is partially subsidized by Medicare as well as providing an in crease in the quality of life for its users.
