Abstract

DEVELOPMENT IS PROPOSED OF A RELIABLE, QUIET, COMPACT ENGINETO UTILIZE WASTE WOOD FOR RURAL ON-SITE POWER GENERATION FORDOMESTIC, AGRICULTURAL, AND FORESTRY USES. APPLICATIONS WOULD INCLUDE COGENERATION OF RESIDENTIAL ELECTRICITY AND HEATING, AND POWER FOR WATER PUMPING, BATTERY CHARGING, AND WORK-SITE LIGHTING AND EQUIPMENT. THE PROPOSED ENGINE IS ANAMBIENT-AIR-CHARGED STIRLING ENGINE INCORPORATING AN INNOVATIVE DRIVE MECHANISM, THE ROSS LINKAGE, TO ACHIEVE PROLONGED OPERATING LIFE, HIGH EFFICIENCY, COMPACTNESS, AND LOW VIBRATION AND NOISE. THE ROSS LINKAGE MINIMIZES PISTON SIDE FORCES, THE PRINCIPAL CAUSE OF WEAR, WHILE GIVING THE PISTONS OPTIMUM PHASING AND SINUSOIDAL MOTION. BEING AMBIENT-AIR-CHARGED, THE ENGINE DOES NOT INVOLVE PROBLEMS OF HIGH PRESSURE, SEALING, OR HAZARDOUS FLUID LEAKAGE.
