Abstract

"This proposal recommends a program to evaluate non-destructive testing (NDE) methods for DACs ceramic composite thruster nozzles. The test methods are to be "go-no/go" tests to verify that the thruster condition prior to or immediately after installationis equal to that upon completion of fabrication and to detect any damage that may have occurred during handling, transportation or installation. Replacement of refractory metal thrusters with ceramic composite thrusters will result in significant cost andweight reductions. The NDE is required to verify that the thruster adequacy has not been degraded by handling, transportation, or installation damage."
