Abstract

QorTek has teamed with Boeing Corporation to propose an advanced multi-regime variably swept design that builds on earlier work done on variable geometry aerostructures. The design is suitable for short-range high-speed strike or long-range loiteringattack by air-launched weapon systems. It also has an intermediate design point that enables high maneuverability. The design uses a compact form factor actuator to enable the novel variable sweep design of both the variable wing and canard to beintegrated with increasingly smaller planforms. Boeing Corporation represents a major component of the worldwide commercial airframe manufacturing for both civil and military aircraft. The variable sweep design could lead into applications to a number ofother unmanned miniaturized missile delivery or UAV aerostructures. Boeing is already investing in such unmanned and/or expendable vehicles and has identified the proposed device technology as a key enabling technology to meet operational requirements.
